Ways You Can Help

A Support Group offers:

  • a sense of hope
  • the chance to learn from others who have shared similar experiences
  • a place to exchange information, support, friendship, empathy and strenth with others
  • a place for exchanging practical ideas, tips and strategies for coping
  • an opportunity to deal with feelings of either isolation or loneliness
  • a place to laugh at the ridiculous side of tradegy without being misunderstood
  • an opportunity where feelings can be normalized and validated
  • an opportunity to lean more about taking care of yourself in order to safeguard your health and well being

A Support Group is not:

  • a replacement for therapy or counselling.
  • simply a social gathering
  • limited to a specific size

It is important to remember that a Support Group is not for everyone.  Some feel more comfortable with a private in home visit.

Please call the Alzheimer's office to obtain information on a support group in your community (807) 468-1516 or 1-800-682-0245.
If you prefer you may also call the office for a private in home visit.

The cities of Dryden and Kenora host monthly lunch time hour care providers support groups.  Please call the Alzheimer's office for information when these groups meet and their location.
